Why I Started Lotus NoSlip: Yoga, Wellness & the Power of Intention

Why I Started Lotus NoSlip

There comes a moment when life feels stable. I'm in that season now: settled in my career as a nurse practitioner, living in a place I love, surrounded by friends who inspire me. I travel freely, live intentionally—and still, something felt missing.

That “something” was curiosity. I missed learning. I missed the challenge and satisfaction of building something from the ground up.

Starting a business? That idea never crossed my mind—until a close friend (basically my opposite in every way) challenged me. She asked me a powerful question:

“What’s something you do often that really bothers you?”

At first, I joked. Then I thought. Then I knew: it was slipping in yoga.

As a long-time yoga practitioner, there's nothing more frustrating than losing your grip mid-pose. It pulls me out of my breath, out of flow—and sometimes, it just makes me downright irritated. I had tried every solution: 10+ yoga mats, microfiber towels, sticky sprays, gloves… none of them felt right. Most made it worse.

Eventually, I found my answer in cork—a natural, eco-friendly material with antimicrobial properties, great texture, and a minimal aesthetic. I started prototyping my own grip aids, designed to enhance your current mat without the cost or waste of constantly upgrading. After 2.5 years of trial, error, and practice—I created Lotus NoSlip Cork Helping Hands.

This entire journey—product development, branding, e-commerce, even using social media—is out of my comfort zone. I don’t have a business degree. I’m not a tech expert. I’m someone who prefers downward dog to downloads.

But here's what I do have: a passion for wellness, a deep understanding of physical and mental health, and a genuine desire to help others feel safe, grounded, and strong on their mats.

This blog, Lotus of Intention, is where I’ll share the journey—entrepreneurship, yoga insights, health wisdom from my years as a board-certified nurse practitioner, and what it truly means to live with purpose.

Thank you for being here.
Here’s to grip, growth, and living with intention.

With gratitude,
Cassandra
